Hostal Zabala

The manager was very friendly, and cleanliness was decent, though the hostel is old and has an unpleasant smell even when clean. The rooms are small, but they're fine if you're only sleeping there. It's centrally located, but very close to an area that doesn't feel very safe. Finding the entrance was a shock: it's unappealing, a bit scary, and has hardly any signs or directions. It isn't shown in the listing photos, and really should be. The worst part is the noise. You can hear everything, even conversations in the rooms next door, which makes it really uncomfortable to sleep. I wouldn't recommend staying here for that reason.

The room was cleaned every other day, which was a new kind of room service for me. The lady was super nice and helpful, though she didn't speak much English, which could be an issue for some. The rooms are simple and cozy, with different Spanish TV channels and AC. I had a really pleasant stay and would come back if I return to Madrid.

The old building has a beautiful original staircase and a retro lift. Staff were lovely and helpful, and the place had a very relaxed feel. My room smelled a little funky when I came in, but it was super clean, with a great shower and comfy bed. Outside can get a bit noisy, though that's what you expect in a central location. Fab for the price. I'd recommend it.

The room was clean and fully furnished, though a bit small. The position is perfect, right in the city center and very well connected. Irma gave great service, and the Owner was a great help.
