The Wi-Fi works well and the beds are comfortable. Still, the bathrooms were untidy, with water and towels on the floor, and there didn’t seem to be a curfew or rules. The shower doors are frosted but still kind of see-through, and people in the hallway can see them if the bathroom door is open. When we spoke to the woman checking us out, she stayed focused on her phone and didn’t seem interested in being there. It just felt like there were no standards or procedures. We stayed one night because I was going to the Real Madrid match nearby, then chose somewhere closer to the older part of Madrid for the rest of our visit. That’s the only reason I’d stay here.

The place described in the listing, including the photos, wasn’t there at all. They accepted reservations but apparently don’t physically exist, and they hang up when called. We’ll do everything we can to get our money back. All lies!

A nice hotel.

After so many months, we finally got our refund, but the company never contacted us. It seemed to have vanished. We only got our money back after exhausting every option with Booking.com, another appalling company, and our bank. The nationwide state of emergency had been declared, and we had cited it and given notice from the start. The company ignored our calls and the emails we’d sent for months, while keeping our money and taking advantage of the situation. I don’t think you have any empathy for tourists, and you don’t deserve to have people visit. We complain about tourism declining, but with this treatment of customers, it’s a wonder you haven’t lost it already.

It took until October 4th for us to get our money back, after a relentless struggle involving Booking.com, the hotel, which seemed to have vanished, and the bank. I’d thought Booking.com was a reliable intermediary, but the experience left me feeling it was a complete rip-off. When the first state of emergency prohibited travel, six other people and I asked the hostel for a refund because we couldn’t make use of our stay. The hostel stopped responding to calls and emails. Booking.com also gave us the runaround, saying the hostel was responsible for handling our request and refund. The tourism industry says it wants people not to be afraid to travel. Experiences like this make us reluctant even to book. If you keep treating customers this way, tourism and leisure will keep dying. Shameful.
