Melia Madrid Barajas

The bar Trasluz was a highlight, especially since it stays open until 1 am, which was perfect after our late arrival. Fatima served the drinks and seemed to really love her job. She made excellent gin tonics and was great to talk with. Breakfast was varied enough, and although nothing was cooked to order, the quality was high and everything was flavorful. We only had about 12 hours there, unfortunately, but the hotel ticked all the boxes when we arrived late. Check-in was fast and pleasant, the rooms spacious and well appointed, with pitch-black curtains and a very comfortable bed. The toilet had a shower and a separate bathtub. The rooms are well insulated, and while there was plenty of early-morning foot traffic, the thick doors muffled most of the noise from bed. It's a very nice option close to the airport, and comes highly recommended. I loved the hotel, and wish I could've enjoyed more of its amenities.

Great for an overnight stop before a flight, as long as you don't have to leave too early, since the breakfast is excellent. It was much better than its price and location suggested. There are restaurants within walking distance for the evening, including one that looked miles better than the hotel's own dining.

The pool was a nice surprise for an airport hotel, though I know that’s not unusual for Meliá. I had a really good stay here after flying into Madrid from a holiday at one of the Meliá Biggest Resort in Varadero. The airport is close, and the transfer runs every 30 minutes. The hotel was clean and up to Meliá standards, and I appreciated the recognition for Elite members. Jaime at reception was especially welcoming, and my helpful housekeeper made sure I had the amenities I needed. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice. The chef also made me a lovely omelette and brought it to my table with a smile. I forgot to ask his name, but thank you! I’d definitely stay here again when I’m in Madrid.

Getting through to reception by phone was difficult, and the calls kept disconnecting. The shuttle was even worse. I waited nearly 1.5 hours while the other hotel chains’ shuttles came by two or three times. When ours finally arrived, it was so full that around 20 people were left behind, while many passengers, including older people, had already been standing for more than 25 minutes. Disgraceful. If you want a convenient hotel near the airport, this isn’t it.
