The location made it easy to explore Madrid on foot, with shops, sights, cafés, and restaurants nearby, plus simple transit connections for airport or meeting trips. The rooms felt calm and upscale, with a classic and modern mix, a proper desk, lots of outlets, a kettle, and a cozy seating area. Beds were comfortable, and the soundproofing and blackout curtains helped us sleep. The bathroom was a highlight: double vanity, good water pressure, a separate rainfall shower, deep tub, and quality toiletries. Housekeeping kept everything spotless. El Pelícano had a surprisingly good menu that read like a proper restaurant, with clearly marked healthy choices, a sensible breakfast including a low-cal option, and a Spanish-leaning wine list. Room service ran late, portions were fair, and the service was prompt. The bathrooms were spotless, and I liked having both a tub and walk-in rain shower. Friendly, efficient staff and a central location made this a polished, comfortable base. I'd gladly stay again.

Breakfast was next level, with options for everyone and then some. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the shower was one of the best I've ever used. Staff were nice when we spoke with them, and could communicate in English, though we didn't interact much. It was a little farther from where we wanted to be, but probably in the right spot for most people. Loved the place.

The room was excellent and clean, and the rest of the staff were very nice. I enjoyed my stay, but breakfast was a bad experience. I waited in line at the made-to-order egg station while everyone ahead of me got fresh eggs. When I asked for some, the chef pointed me to the buffet behind me and waved the next person forward. I was confused, to say the least. The buffet food was cold, too.

The bed was comfortable, but the room felt a little dated and the air conditioning was noisy and ineffective. At 23C I don't sleep well, and even with the windows open, the coolest I could get it before bed was 22C. The secondary glazing was difficult to move. We stayed in this quiet area north of the city for the conference centre, which is great and reasonably close to the airport. The bar stays open late.

A very good choice for a Madrid stopover, in my opinion, despite the hotel's huge size. There's a nice rice restaurant in the basement, and the level lounge is probably worthwhile for a business trip. As you'd expect, rates vary quite a bit depending on the dates.
