Modular Rooms Hotels

Right in the heart of Madrid, this capsule hotel was a great budget option for visiting solo. The neighborhood felt safe, including at night as a woman traveling alone, and it’s close to the metro. The 24 hour reception team were all kind and helpful. My capsule had plenty of space, different lighting options for reading and ambience, A/C, and several power outlets. The shared bathrooms and kitchen were clean, and the locker easily held a large suitcase. Mine is hand luggage size in the picture. I felt very safe because the front door, room door, capsule, and locker all needed my unique PIN code to open. You’ll still hear people coming and going in the room, since it’s a hotel, but that’s to be expected.

The only thing going for it is the location, close to the metro and SOL. The room was really tiny, there was nowhere to relax, and the bathroom was on another floor. The kitchen was very dirty, and there weren’t any facilities or even a coffee machine. I didn’t like it at all.

The shared pantry is spacious and has equipment and dishes, and getting to check in at 11:00 a.m. was a real plus for a budget stay. The bathroom is small, though, and the shower drain was slow. Each capsule has a wooden sliding door that scrapes noisily, and you can hear someone on the upper bunk climbing in or shifting around from the lower one. I wouldn’t recommend it for light sleepers.

The location worked well, and the capsule felt roomy rather than claustrophobic. The mattress was comfortable, and it didn’t get too hot inside. The shared bathroom was the uncomfortable part. Its tiny sinks are packed close together, and the motion-sensor taps shut off as soon as you move your hand away. It took several tries to get them running again, all in the same cramped room as the toilets and showers.
