Montera Center Madrid

We found the common areas useful, and the spacious, comfortable rooms made it convenient to stay with friends or a larger group. The hostel felt welcoming, and the location right in the heart of Madrid was unbeatable for setting out to explore the city. I think it offers fantastic value for the price, and I definitely recommend it.

The entrance looks like a dilapidated, disused garage, and the whole precinct smells because there’s no air circulation. There’s no lift, so don’t book this place if you’re carrying heavy luggage or have trouble with stairs. There’s also no human receptionist. The air conditioner had no remote. I contacted customer service, and she said a missing AC remote wasn’t their problem. The WhatsApp chat about this is in the photos. I’ve now claimed my money back through the credit card I used to book. There are more interesting details in the photos section.

The location is very convenient, but you’ll have to carry your luggage up to the room. The photos show how shabby the place is: there are broken tiles in the middle of the room, the toilet handle is broken, and the toilet has no ventilation. The balcony door doesn’t lock securely.

I couldn’t stay at Montera Center Madrid because my flight was cancelled at the last minute. I contacted the host two days ahead and suggested relisting the room on Booking.com at a lower rate, with me covering the difference if someone rebooked. I was told a supervisor would respond, but no solution ever came. The host eventually cancelled the booking for “no arrival” and promptly put the room back up on Booking.com, despite my attempts to communicate and find a compromise. I can’t comment on the room itself, but the service and communication I experienced were extremely poor. To me, this showed a lack of professionalism and genuine hospitality. I’d urge future travelers to think about this before booking, especially if flexibility or support during unexpected changes matters to you.
