El Patio de Chueca

This was the worst accommodation experience I’ve had. They advertise a women-only private room when you book, then change the story when you arrive and don’t honor the reservation or offer any compensation. They also ask for a €15 deposit without clearly explaining why. The hostel is dirty, badly managed, and feels unsafe. Staff and the manager were rude, aggressive, and disrespectful, especially the female manager with glasses, whose attitude was arrogant and unacceptable. I was told the police come to the hostel at least once or twice a day because of frequent guest complaints, which says a lot about how problematic the place is. There was no respect, professionalism, or honesty. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this place and not fall for the scam.

The low price doesn’t make up for how awful this stay was. The place felt dirty, with rubbish around and old, broken furniture, and the atmosphere made me feel uneasy and unsafe. The bathroom conditions were completely unhygienic. Lights in the room stayed on from 11:00 PM, so resting was impossible, and some guests played things loudly on their phones through the night. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel.

We waited over 15 minutes to get into our room because nobody was at reception when we arrived. The place was much dirtier than it looked in the photos: the floor was dirty on day one, and we never got fresh towels. Breakfast was included, but it was just bread, coffee and one or two toppings, so we kept having to buy extra food. We chose it because it seemed clean and a little nicer than it turned out to be. The whole stay was awful. Avoid it if you can.

There’s no microwave or kettle for heating water, and arriving late may mean you don’t get a blanket. Of the two kinds of lockers, one wouldn’t shut and another wouldn’t open. One of the two bathrooms in the room was missing its shower nozzle, so maybe they’re planning to renovate it next season. The staff didn’t seem interested when I had a small issue with the website or other problems. The welcome at reception felt like a subtle way of saying not to come back. Madrid has plenty of better value options.
