MYD Madriz Hostel

I was meant to stay two nights, but cut my stay short. I’ve been to lots of hostels, and this was by far the worst. The room had no ventilation, and as a woman I felt very uncomfortable sharing the bathroom and shower with men. There was nowhere in the shower to put a towel or change of clothes. The toilets were disgusting, seemed not to be cleaned daily, and always had pee on them. The smell throughout the place was awful. It felt like a rip-off, and I don’t know where the good reviews came from. To top it off, at 7 am a man was loudly pleasuring himself in the shower. I didn’t feel safe there.

I didn’t feel safe for a moment, especially as a woman traveling alone. On my second night I was the only woman in a room full of very strange older men. The guests were mostly older men, and I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to anyone. The place felt disgusting: the sheets and pillowcases were visibly dirty, the bathroom smelled awful, and the room was hot and stuffy. The shower had no lock, so someone could open it while you were using it, and its frosted glass door still let you see people inside. I also had to wait by myself outside for an hour because nobody was at reception. It was the worst experience I’ve had. Stay away.

We left early even though we’d paid for more days. This place was the worst I’ve ever seen. Zero stars, DO NOT GO!

We were five girls and one guy, and there weren’t any other women in the hostel, only older men. In our room, another guest threatened to beat us up if we weren’t quiet and kept saying things like, “I am crazy!” The room was accessed with a code rather than security cards or anything similar. The shower and toilet were dirty, and the atmosphere felt strange and dodgy. Don’t stay here, especially if you’re a woman. Find another cheap place, and don’t trust the five-star reviews.
