NH Madrid Nacional

I felt well looked after from the start. The staff were welcoming, professional, and attentive throughout, which made a real difference to my stay. Getting around Madrid was easy too. The hotel is close to public transport, restaurants, and major attractions. I came away very happy with the experience and would stay here again.

There’s plenty to see and eat nearby, and I’d recommend the location for a Madrid trip. Just skip the lobby bar unless you’re ready for ridiculous prices: a sangria and whiskey came to 27 euros, charged to our room. At check-in, we’d also declined the 15 euros per night for a Paseo del Prado view and nearly 30 euros a day for breakfast. Our superior room had the usual amenities and a very nice, generously sized bathroom, plus an app for requesting things like extra towels. The room itself felt small, the bed wasn’t comfortable, and street noise came through. It’s very close to Atocha station and the Prado, though.

We’ve stayed here many times over the years, and the recent interior refurbishment has worked well. The location makes getting around easy: Estacion Atocha, the Metro, the city terminus for the 203 airport bus, and plenty of local buses are all a short walk away. Rooms facing Paseo del Prado or C de Atocha are well soundproofed. Breakfast is a big self-service spread in a spacious room.

I stayed for five nights at the beginning of April 2026. My interior-facing room was so quiet I couldn’t hear the street or nearby businesses, which is just what I want on vacation. It was also spacious and clean, with a comfortable bed. The building is well maintained and the staff were friendly. The spot is hard to beat, right beside Retiro Park and close to museums, the metro, and Atocha train station. Breakfast had a good selection, but it was pricey, so I’d probably skip it next time. I thought NH Ventas had a better breakfast, though that may just be nostalgia from my previous trip. I had a great stay and would come back to Madrid and stay here again.
