Safestay Madrid

The location really makes this place. It’s super close to two metro stations, so getting around was easy, and the neighborhood was pretty, with a few bars and restaurants on the same street. I only stayed one night, but enjoyed it. The bathrooms were clean enough, the bed was comfy, the staff were incredibly kind, and check-in was easy. I’d stay again :)

The location is nice, but the place itself was disgusting and freezing. Getting in and out of the top bunk felt like a climbing challenge because the ladders were sketchy, and there were no crash pads. Watch out for screws drilled into the floor to act as doorstops. In the evening, the bathrooms were gross, smelly, and covered with body hair on the floors and in the showers. The “kitchen” was just a microwave under blinding white lights, with bars on the windows for a depressing prison feel. Making healthy food there is quite a challenge. The staff were kind until I couldn’t extend my stay, even though I’d clearly asked to. I came back in the afternoon and found my things bagged up. They told me I had to leave and tried to charge a “cleaning fee.” Full of fun surprises!

The bunk bed ladders were awkward and even dangerous, and the wardrobes were much too small. The location is convenient, close to the metro and shops, but there wasn’t a proper kitchen where I could prepare food. The dining room only opens at 3:00 PM, so lunch wasn’t an option. Outside opening hours, they wouldn’t lend cutlery, they sold it, and there were no glasses or cups available either. I’ve stayed in many hostels and never experienced this before.

I’ve stayed here twice in the past 6 months and was satisfied both times. It’s a nice hostel in a central location, with 24/7 reception, cleaners, a storage room, and the things you need. Breakfast is big enough for €5. Most of the staff are friendly.
