Barbatuke Hostel

I booked eight nights through booking.com. The listing said there was free cancellation and no prepayment, with payment due at the accommodation, but the full amount was taken from my card straight away. I cancelled within the free cancellation period and still haven’t received a refund. For over a month I kept contacting the accommodation to ask when the money would be returned. They repeatedly said they’d get back to me, then stopped responding altogether. They also haven’t replied to booking.com’s team about the issue.

Marcia is the one who makes the place feel a little like home. The rooms and showers both need a refresh, and we had no hot or even warm water for the whole week. There’s a lot inside that should be improved.

The city centre takes a while to reach, though you can get there by bus or walk along the seaside promenade. The place itself is cosy and relaxing, close to the beach and good for friends or couples. The garden and shared areas have sofas and bean bags to lounge on, and the rooms were clean and comfortable for the price. Since I was there in January, having a hot tub in my room was a nice touch.

The owner was so friendly and helpful, and the place had a really homelike feel. The bathrooms were spotless, and the kitchen was available at all times. I especially loved the free bike service, which gave me lots of ways to explore town without spending anything. I’d definitely recommend staying here.
