The kitchen was a good place to meet other travelers. I had meals and swapped travel stories with several friendly people there, and there was plenty of gear for cooking. There’s also a sofa seating area, a snooker and cinema space, a small workroom with internet, and laundry machines. The sunny roof terrace should become another spot to hang out; I believe they plan to add outdoor seating and sofas in the months before summer 2026. I spent four nights at The Funker Hostel. My bedroom was comfortable and modern, with small partitions around the beds. Our room had an ensuite shower and bathroom that worked well, and everything was kept very clean. I understand the other bedrooms have private bathrooms too. Each bed has a power outlet and reading light. The place is new, quiet, well equipped, and the staff were kind and helpful. They gave me useful advice on places to see in the city and around Andalucia. It’s about a seven-minute walk to the old town, with supermarkets, shops, snack bars, and pizzerias nearby. Mercadona and Dia are around five minutes away, while Lidl and Aldi take just a couple of minutes longer. I especially liked the empanadas at local food bars, savory pastries with different fillings in the Argentinian style. The hostel is on a quiet pedestrian street, even with the usual busy activity around the nearby shops and food places. This is one of the best city hostels I've found on my travels, and I’d definitely stay at The Funker Hostel again when I’m next in Malaga.

The kitchen came in handy, and I met a lot of new friends here. They have a QR code with a map of good restaurants and things to do. I felt safe traveling solo, and the location is great. The rooms were clean, and the staff were lovely and always ready to help. The girl with glasses was always smiling, and the other girl was nice too. She helped me with my reservation. If I come back to Malaga, I’ll stay at Funker for sure. :)

I liked the spacious rooms, and having the bathroom separate from the room was handy, though the shower was attached. There’s plenty of kitchen, pantry, and fridge space. The staff were kind and hospitable, and the onsite manager even went out and bought paper towels after I offered to get some. They'd been using toilet paper in place of paper towels in the kitchen and bathrooms. The place has some cool art, but the common areas could be more comfortable. My room had hardly any ventilation and felt like 80 degrees. The guys in the beds by the windows wanted them closed, so I had to put up with the heat. The lighting in the room was excessive, and the beds could use curtains. I enjoyed my stay, but the place is missing a few things.

It was nice being a little outside the centre, about a 5-10 minute walk, in a less touristy area. The hostel is new, and staff, especially Christina, were really friendly and suggested places to see. I'd recommend cycling, since Malaga has some lovely bike paths. A few things could make it better: more seating in the common area, curtains around the beds, and better ventilation in the shower room. Since the bathrooms are ensuite, people can wake their roommates. Extra bathrooms outside the rooms would help when those are in use.

Breakfast is simple but good quality and reasonably priced, and the rooms were clean. Sleep was the problem. The rooms are very noisy, with doors that don't block sound. I had a bathroom inside my bedroom, but the next room's bathroom opened onto a shared hallway. People kept opening and shutting doors, waking me up, and they weren't being considerate. With that layout, there wasn't any real peace and quiet at night. I wouldn't recommend this hostel because of the noise.
