Mariposa Hotel Malaga

It’s a small, friendly hotel in a superb, very central location, with a fantastic breakfast selection of hot and cold food. The air conditioning wasn’t working, and they were getting it fixed as we left. It didn’t bother us much because the weather had only just started to warm up.

We loved the rooftop terrace, and the staff were welcoming, friendly, and efficient. Breakfast was limited, but absolutely adequate and had enough variety. The hotel is fabulous, right in Malaga’s Soho area with a great location. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. If we plan another long weekend in Malaga, we’ll definitely stay at the Mariposa Hotel!

We loved how walkable it was. The hotel is near the old town and beach, just outside the busiest hubbub. The main area has nice decor, and there’s a small gym with enough equipment to get a workout in, plus a super cute rooftop bar. Be prepared to wait after ordering, though. The bartender always seems busy. Breakfast was good. I’m happy as long as there are eggs, and they had those, as well as toast, cereal, yogurt, meat, tomatoes, a coffee machine, and other items. My only concern was the carpet in our room, which looked really dirty and like it needed replacing. The other amenities were great: a coffee machine, double sinks, an opening window, and air conditioning. I wore the slippers they provided, which I liked. All the staff were great.

The location was a real plus, with lots nearby to see and places an easy walk away. The staff were warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed the breakfast, which had a decent mix of cold meats, cheese, toast, fruit and a couple of hot choices. It ran until 11am. There are four loungers on the roof terrace, though the bar there doesn't open until 5pm. Our room was pleasant and clean, with a free safe, a Nespresso machine (the first coffees are free, then €1), hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The faulty conditioner dispenser took three days to replace. There were only four coat hangers, which should be checked before guests arrive rather than leaving people to ask for more. The ironing board was tiny, and there was nowhere to set it up without clearing the dresser. For a five-night stay, that basic item mattered, and my wife couldn't iron her dresses. When it was taken away, I was told I had to go to reception to collect it. I asked whether that was their only board and was told yes. This would put me off returning. We still had a great stay and would recommend the place, but I hope they get full-size ironing boards.
