I spent two nights at Villa Guadalupe in Málaga. The room was spacious and had an amazing view. I also ate at the restaurant, where the food was very delicious, the views over Málaga were stunning, and the service exceptionally friendly.

It's a nice, quiet spot up on the hill with a view of Malaga, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes being somewhere remote and peaceful. You'll need a car to get into the city centre, which is rather far away. The rooms are cosy but a little outdated. Number 5 is especially nice, with its balcony. I wish there were more dishes in the rooms. Staff were friendly and responsive. The restaurant is fine, the food is tasty but a little pricey. The pool closes at 20.00, and I'd have liked it to stay open longer.

I stayed in mid July 25 on the way to Gibraltar and would definitely give this villa-style hotel more than five stars. The views are beautiful, overlooking Málaga with a mountain range beside the hotel. You'll need transport, as Málaga is a 15-minute drive away. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Free water, tea and coffee are available. There's a restaurant with a substantial menu, though I didn't eat there. The room was comfortable, and the bed and pillows were excellent. It also had a safe, fridge, ironing board, TV, tea-making facilities and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Parking is free on site. There's a swimming pool and terrace with great views too. Breakfast was amazing and à la carte. Highly recommended.

Room 9 was lovely and private, with its own garden and balcony. The restaurant was great too. It's a small hotel with just a few staff, so the stay felt very personal. I love this place and would stay again. They might not get rid of me next time!

That view from the balcony really is something. Once the manager finally moved us to the room we’d booked, we could watch birds of prey overhead and all of Malaga spread out below. Our son and his girlfriend joined us for a drink while the sun came out, and after the awful stormy drive from Otivar, the evening seemed to be turning around. The manager also clarified that the restaurant was open after all. Getting to that point was frustrating. We’d picked Villa Guadaloupe for its airport proximity, the view, and the promise of a bar and restaurant before our early flight. It was our last night in Spain after 15 nights in Tarifa, Granada and Otivar, and we arrived exhausted after driving through the worst storm I’ve ever experienced. At check-in we were told the restaurant was closed, and the room had no balcony, just a coconut tree and a big hedge outside. When we raised it, the receptionist said the hotel was full and he couldn’t change our room. The manager wasn’t available, and we were told to contact Booking.com if we wanted to cancel. I went to smoke on the terrace while my wife kept trying to sort it out, then the manager appeared and moved us to the room we’d paid for. The building and setting are lovely, but the service and food were well below what we expected for the price. We might stay again, but would eat and drink at places a taxi ride away. If the manager had taken a moment to hear us out over dinner, things probably would have gone much better. Service in the many other hotels we stayed at around Spain was exemplary, so Villa Guadaloupe fell well short, sadly.
