Our balcony was huge and faced the shady side of the building, which was a relief during the hottest part of Malaga’s burning sun. The apartment was good, and the city is beautiful. It’s also conveniently placed, about a 10-15 minute walk from both the beach and the castel.

We had a spacious Airbnb and were a good distance from the central area, but there were several problems. The rooms were very noisy because they’re near a main street and the windows don’t block the sound. They wouldn’t lock, and the broken shutters wouldn’t close either. The shower had hardly any pressure, and the sink splashed water everywhere. There were four adults, but only one of us got to shower because the hot water ran out.

I lived in this apartment for three years, when they offered long-term rentals during Covid. The apartment itself was really nice, but my experience with the host was mixed. Two years ago, they tried to make us move out. I believed that was illegal, since in Spain we could extend the contract up to five years at the same price, with only a few percent increase allowed for inflation. Then, when we left after three years, they kept our deposit without telling us. After I contacted them several times, they sent pictures of alleged damage that hadn’t been identified while we were there at checkout, and said the costs would come from the deposit. When I disagreed with most of the claims, they ignored me. There were also repeated problems with other guests screaming or knocking on our door at night and early morning. We had to report these incidents to head office each time to calm things down, and once we even had to call the Police. The host kept our deposit despite all this discomfort, in a way I found insolent. I’m not sure they check the apartment thoroughly after every guest, so it felt like our case got some kind of special attention. Check carefully for any alleged damage, even if a white wall isn’t quite white anymore. That’s why I gave it one out of five.
