Atenea Port Barcelona Mataro Hotel

The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to help, and breakfast had plenty of choice and was good quality. We also enjoyed the Mediterranean food at the hotel restaurant. Atenea Port is close to the harbor and train station, with Barcelona about 30 minutes away by train. The rooms were spacious, modern, very clean, and comfortable; some look out over the marina. The outdoor pool, gym, and spa were nice extras that made the stay more relaxing. We had a very pleasant visit and would gladly come back. I'd recommend it.

We chose the hotel for one night in mid August to see whether we'd recommend it to our wedding guests. We won't be recommending it. The location is handy for the beach and a range of restaurants, though the place felt more geared toward business stays than holidays. For what we got, it was expensive. The room was large enough and basically fine, if a little tired, but the bed was two singles pushed together. I hate that setup because they slide apart, and I end up sleeping on one single bed, which is almost a downgrade from home. The hotel was packed, so we couldn't get a pool lounger until after 6pm. When we did, there were screaming kids, a couple kissing in the pool, and someone on a loud FaceTime call in the water without headphones. Not very relaxing, though that seemed more about the other guests than the hotel. We'd planned to eat dinner there, but were told there was no space to sit outside, so we went elsewhere. That was disappointing. It would've helped to know in advance that we needed to reserve an evening table. Breakfast was fine, nothing special.

I'm paying too much for this level of comfort and service. The bathroom had rust and dirt, and some holders were broken. Please keep a closer eye on room upkeep before things get worse.

Jesús from the bar/restaurant and Marta on the night shift were kind and professional, and they really made the stay brighter. That's why I'm giving three stars instead of one. Stay: 07-10 December 2025. Room: 06. The room looked small but pleasant at first. In daylight, though, the balcony door's poor fit let outside noise in, the wall by the desk had an unknown stain, and several pieces of furniture were damaged or coming apart. The entrance night light wasn't secured properly either. The shower tray hadn't been cleaned well, with visible residue on the ATENEA imprint from previous guests. The silicone around the tray was worn and moldy in places and needs replacing. These issues might take a qualified maintenance technician about 60 minutes in total. It seemed nobody had inspected the room carefully lately. Please don't put this on the employees, management is responsible for the room condition and regular quality checks. One more request for housekeeping: please keep hallway conversations down early in the morning. Business guests may leave early, but holiday guests shouldn't be woken at 8:00 by loud talking. With the balcony door letting noise through as well, it affected our comfort. Kind regards.
