Hotel Playa Grande

I usually avoid reviewing a hotel if I’m going to be too negative, but this was my hard-earned vacation money, so I’ll just say: book somewhere else. The water outside was warm, which was about the only positive. It’s not near town, and all the windows have bars. There’s graffiti in all the public areas outside. The weekend we stayed, guests only had twin beds. Wi-Fi was down on our side of the hotel, and nobody at the front desk seemed to care. The bathroom was gross, and showering was uncomfortable because the curtain hung long enough to stand on while the shower head blasted from the middle side. I couldn’t sleep: the toilet ran all night, people above us were pushing beds together, and people below kept buzzing in from the garage. Their safe only fits two passports, so I needed a portable one.

The tapas are the best and the staff are great. There’s no music and the lighting is harsh, but I guarantee you’ll have a good night. When you ask for a glass of wine and the guy brings what’s left in the bottle, that’s a good day in my book. Definitely come here.

It’s a cheap, clean, friendly three-star hotel right on the beach, with no frills and a small pool. The food was generally good, though breakfast was limited: bread rolls, jam, cheese, and sliced meat, the same every day. The coffee was very good, and beer and wine were cheap. We’d stay again if we needed to.

Yesterday was lovely. We had a fun time at the beach, then a wonderful lunch and drinks on the terrace. The staff were very attentive, and it’s definitely worth a visit. My sister is staying at the hotel, so I’ll be back again today.
