Hotel Vialmar

I liked the large, cozy rooms and the cleanliness, including in the bathroom. The pool was my favorite part: it was spacious, high up, and had beautiful views. There was also a private garage. Getting in and out of the complex was a hassle, since we always had to call to get the car out. Food options were limited to breakfast and the bar.

The staff were friendly and attentive, which is why I’m giving it two stars. The pool was nice, though there wasn’t enough space to relax there. The hotel is beside the highway, so it’s handy for getting around, and the rooms look like the photos. Still, almost €70 a night felt expensive for what we got. There was just one outlet in the sleeping area and two in the bathroom. Cleanliness was another problem: the floor stayed dirty for days, the hairdryer was sticky and full of hair, and we couldn’t use it during our stay. Towels were left on the floor or not changed, even when they were yellowed with sunscreen after the beach. Those basics have nothing to do with the hotel’s star rating or category, just with having decent rooms. Breakfast was poor and especially badly organized. Weekends were chaotic. They ran out of turkey and took ages to bring more, or didn’t bring any; one day there was only cheese, another only chorizo. The pastries were the same every day with little variety, and the tiny toaster had two trays, one broken. The Spanish omelet was awful, and so on. After that “excellent” breakfast experience, I didn’t dare eat anything else there, especially after seeing the daily menus.

There’s a lot of land belonging to the hotel, about 27,000 square meters from what I’ve been told, with oak groves and more. The place is modern and quiet, with a pool, and only a few kilometers from Sanxenxo and the Camino de Santiago. It’s where Rajoy does his tours, the Water Route, and where our President goes on windmill tours. It’s ideal for people who like quiet walks with children, with affordable prices and a convenient location.

We were allowed to use the pool even though we arrived at 1:00 AM, and the hotel offered a van to the Albariño Wine Festival in nearby Cambados for €10 per person round trip, available 24 hours a day. That seemed like a great way to avoid worrying about transport. Our room came with a garage, a full bathroom with a bathtub and bidet, and a large, comfortable bed. They’d removed the TVs from all the rooms, presumably to prevent damage during the Albariño Festival, and that was a downside for us. There was no price reduction for it. The buffet was basic and meager.
