Hotel Restaurante Xaneiro

The rooms are clean, though basic and showing their age. The lift is far too small, but it does work. Downstairs there’s a dining room, bar and street-side terrace that guests and locals alike seem to enjoy. It’s centrally located, while the surroundings are quieter. The best part is the friendly service from Maria, Carlos and the rest of this family-run business. The food is good and prices are reasonable too. They’re planning to refurbish the hotel soon, so it should be a fantastic place to stay in future.

The accommodations were wonderful, but the service is what makes this place exceptional. They helped when I needed a taxi, when I slept in, and when I needed another taxi. The restaurant even stayed open to accommodate us. We stayed at the hotel and ate dinner there, and the food was all freshly homemade and exceptional. I could go on, but I’ll definitely be back.

A small room, but it was well lit, with light and air coming through the central atrium. The hotel has an old-world charm and feels like a happily run family business. We were shown to our room first and asked to come back down to check in whenever we were ready, a relaxed but efficient way of doing things. It’s fairly central without being on the main street, so it’s quiet at night and still handy for an early start on the Camino.

The staff at Hotel Xaneiro made us feel very welcome, and one of the managers even treated us to a cerveza. Gracias! The rooms were clean, pleasant, and quiet. It’s also easy to walk to both Museo da Terra de Melide and Convento Sancti Spiritus, and they’re both worth a visit. The docent at Museo da Terra knew a lot, too. Look for one of the original coro pieces from the Cathedral Santiago de Compostela.
