Akla Hotel Mérida

After a long drive back from Madrid, I needed somewhere to sleep for the night. I’d tried several times to call ahead and explain I’d be late because of car trouble, but nobody answered or got back to me. When I arrived, there was no one at reception, and nobody answered the phone then either, so I couldn’t check in or get any help. I don’t have unlimited phone service, so I could only try calling a few times. They still charged me for a room I never used, and never replied directly to my emails. I’d stay away. It felt like they wanted my money and didn’t care about the customer experience.

The location was OK, but I barely slept because of noise from people, cars, and the surrounding buildings. The hot tubs were really dirty, with things floating in the water. I also found the staff a bit rude and distant when I spoke with them, which was only at check-in and check-out.

The room was as expected and the place felt cozy, with nice staff. The hot tub worked well, though it was a little dusty.

Getting in was easy with the door and room codes. The hotel was extremely clean, pleasant, and comfortable, and the spa bath was magnificent. We’ll come back.
