Beachfront Morea 4 Puerto Rico

Apartment 5, the “deluxe apartment” in the Morea Beachfront Suites complex in Puerto Rico, is what I’m reviewing. It’s one of five apartments, and my comments don’t apply to the other four. For some reason, the company’s own review link puts the property in the middle of nowhere on Google Maps, so bear that in mind if you’re using this review to decide. The biggest problem is that this is not a deluxe apartment. The online photos are years old, and most aren’t even of Apartment 5. The place appears to have had water damage and a rushed, poor repair. If you Google “flooding - Gran Canaria,” you can see what happens here in winter these days. Paint is peeling from the window frames, the front door looks as if it was kicked in at some point, and the living room wallpaper is coming off the walls. The flooring has been changed since the website photos, laid in a different direction, and is lifting in places. The redecoration is sloppy too, with paint splatters on outside walls, frames and stairs, plus bubbling paint. On our second night, I turned on a light and the power went out. When we opened the housing around some electrical wiring, its door fell off. It was broken and anyone could open it. Luckily, we didn’t have small children with us. There are other basic problems. Cleaning was poor, with grubby skirting boards and little piles of the previous occupants’ dirt in some corners. The sofa has been re-covered because it’s old, which you can’t tell from the photos either. It all felt grim enough that my wife and daughter moved to a hotel after three nights. The two roads nearby are busy with tour and transfer buses, one above the property and another right at the end of the patio. A street sweeper also buzzes along them noisily early every morning. We knew about the roads before booking, but not that the ground floor has single glazing and no soundproofing. It didn’t bother me much, but light sleepers are likely to be woken up, especially on these beds. The rooftop sun terrace is about 20 feet from the main road and noisy as well. And the beds are seriously uncomfortable, like sleeping on the floor, unless you’re a Tibetan Monk or just out of prison. Cheap mattresses are rock hard. Maybe some people like that, but we didn’t. The company said in its reply that mattress toppers were available, but when we asked, we were told no. When we got home, we complained. It turned out the company is an intermediary and owns none of the properties it rents. It seems to think this is a luxury place based on old photos and without checking often enough. Or it’s ignoring the faults, or simply doesn’t care. Its reply below suggests all three. They should fix the problems, or update the photos and charge half the current price. It isn’t worth the money, and there are plenty of cheaper or better places in the resort. Personally, I’d avoid this apartment, and probably the company too. When we raised the issues, they basically told us to get stuffed and acted as though everything was fine, despite the photo evidence I attached. Their response only reinforces that view. AVOID.
