Canaima - Only Adults

The host apologized afterwards and suggested ignoring the people involved, but the incident humiliated the 73-year-old lady so much that she didn’t want to return. I won’t come back to any of the Canaima apartment properties because of the lack of respect for elderly people. Shame on those who discriminate against and humiliate older people. Someone who introduced himself as the president of Canaima apartments made a scene and forced the woman out of the smaller children’s pool, humiliating her in front of others. He shut the parasol she was using without asking. Someone else had put it up so she could sit in the shade, and closing it left her exposed to direct sun despite her health issues. Another woman with him wouldn’t give her name but also insisted that the lady leave the pool area. The man kept shouting and demanding that she move, and wanted to know her apartment number. A young woman tried to help, explaining that because of her age and health she couldn’t get into the larger pool or she would drown. There were no children there at the time, so why not let her stay by the smaller pool? He wouldn’t listen. It was disgusting and humiliating behaviour, and it made it seem like income mattered more than treating people with basic decency.

The apartment was immaculate and very well equipped, and the two lovely sisters who own it did everything they could to make our stay special. It’s in a perfect spot with stunning views from the outside balcony. The beach is a 10-15 minute walk, and the shops are a little closer, so you get the best of both worlds. My favourite part was the lovely pool area, where you can relax in the sun. We couldn’t fault our stay and will certainly return very soon. Just note that the apartments are no longer owned by TUI, they’re privately owned.

The apartments are a good size and have had fabulous renovations. The pool has a glorious sea view, and restaurants, shops and bars are very close. It’s a 12-minute walk to the beautiful beach. The complex is now privately owned.

The clubs and bars can get pretty loud into the early hours, with noise carrying through, and the walk or steps down to the centre isn’t for everyone. That’s not the accommodation’s fault, and taxis are cheap, up to €3. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend these apartments if Puerto Rico is the right resort for you. The pool and its surroundings were so clean, the staff were amazing and friendly, and the poolside bar snacks and drinks were very reasonably priced.
