Our balcony looked out over the river and mountains, and the rooms were immaculate. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. We made the evening tourist train trip, which was meant to take three and a half hours but turned into four, swam in the river a pleasant 15-minute walk away, and used the Pool at the River Beach Club for free as hotel guests. We ate dinner at the River Beach Restaurant every night. What a fantastic experience.

It's a beautiful town and the drive up was scenic, but we weren't told online that the hotel was shut for the off season. After driving three hours up the mountain, we found out it was closed. The town pool was shut too, so there was no way to go to the river. They should let people know that everything is closed. Not impressed.

The building is beautiful, well kept, and has stunning views. Our rooms were comfortable and pleasant, but the service made the stay a letdown. We didn't feel welcome at the front desk, where the reception staff looked tired and uninterested. Dining room staff were no better, and our waiter was plainly rude. Dinner was chaotic and far too noisy because the hotel squeezes it into a short time. The food was good and reasonably priced, but the meal wasn't enjoyable. We paid for the “spa,” only to have a large, noisy group ruin the atmosphere and make it stressful instead of relaxing. Breakfast was disappointing too, with a poorly managed buffet, stale mini croissants that seemed at least two weeks old, and generally poor food. I'd rate the facilities 5 stars and the service barely 1. If you want a peaceful, relaxing weekend, this isn't the place.

The hotel has nice views, and the spa was a good option on a rainy day. It has a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, heated pool and jets. A one-hour session costs 8 euro, and you have to wear a swimming hat. They sell them there for 3 euro.
