Hostal Montserrat

The rooms were very cute and extremely clean, and the view was lovely. I can’t complain about that part. The service from the owner, though, was below any acceptable level. We’d called ahead to ask whether we could bring our dog and walk it nearby. They said yes, but there were lots of cars and no sidewalk, just the road, so walking a dog there wasn’t possible. Without a car, you’re stuck, and we were given wrong information. We were on half board, but no one told us when we could eat. When we asked, we got three different times, so we couldn’t tell whether or until when we’d be able to have a meal. For lunch we sat down in the hotel restaurant and paid over 50 euros for two people. That seemed steep for the limited choice, and the food wasn’t very good. It was very greasy, though the homemade cheesecake was tasty. The potatoes and meat were swimming in fat, and the fries were so dark they looked like something from a train station chip shop. The salad was far too salty. Rule one for salad: don’t season or salt it, since people have different tastes. We ended up leaving after one day instead of staying a week. For each of the three meals, we waited at least 20 minutes just to order, then another very long time for the food, even though we were the only people in the restaurant. The owner seemed annoyed with us whenever we spoke to her. Why the stress? There was no one else there, so it couldn’t have been because of us. At dinner they served us the same thing as at lunch and charged an excessive amount. Dinner was included in half board and priced at 10 euros per person. No thanks, never again. People from the area might like the hotel, and anyone with a car and plenty of time to drive elsewhere to see things may be fine there. I don’t want to wait another two hours for a meal. Three meals taking six hours a day is outrageous. Anyone used to good food service would just be frustrated.
