Cervera is close enough for picking up supplies, and there are plenty of routes that start nearby. We used the house as a base for bike rides on Palencia’s Romanesque paths and the coal route, plus hikes around Tejeda de Tosande and the Palencia mountains. There’s so much to explore that we wished we’d had more time. The setting is spectacular for a proper nature break. The house was spotless, warm, and well equipped, with a kitchen that had all the utensils we needed, a fireplace, and firewood the owner had ready for us. The shared spaces were pleasant and varied, too. Miguel Angel was friendly, easy to talk to, and quick to help. The house was already warm when we arrived.

We rented the house for eight people for the Hixpania celebration weekend, September 19-21. One extra friend came, and we brought a mattress for him. The landlord said that was fine, but as we were leaving on Sunday he came in and asked us for money, outside the rental platform. On the first day he’d said there was no problem, so that was a nasty surprise. What made the stay uncomfortable was how often the owner came into the house to see what we were doing. We’d leave early and get back around 8 pm for a barbecue, but he kept checking on us, sometimes every half hour. When you rent a place, you expect some privacy for the length of your stay. The house is also shared with two other houses, which felt like a rip-off, and he even lit the barbecue for us as if we couldn’t manage it ourselves. The house itself was okay, though nothing special, and there were cobwebs everywhere. A bat even flew out of the pool room. There are very few power outlets, and in one upstairs room, plugging in a phone charger made the light switch on and off by itself. Neither of the two Wi-Fi networks worked properly. Our group left everything clean and tidy, with no damage. We also left milk, juice, tomatoes, coffee, aluminum foil, and paper towels, which hadn’t been there when we arrived. We don’t care much about the cobwebs or lack of outlets, and we won’t be back. It was the owner’s intrusiveness and the lack of privacy that made it impossible to feel comfortable.

The worst part was being asked for an extra €40 as we were leaving, outside the Booking.com app, because a friend slept on an inflatable mattress we’d brought. The owner had already told us it was fine to have one more person. I WILL NEVER RETURN, NOT EVEN IF THEY PAY ME. Several areas, including the patio, barbecue, pool table, and foosball, are shared with the owner and two other houses. He kept coming and going, and the house had no salt, very few electrical outlets, and some of them didn’t work.

The owner was so friendly and attentive, and the house was great in every way. It’s a quiet area with good connections and plenty to see and do. I’d stay here again.
