Pension Altair

The bed was comfortable and the shower had good water pressure. It was a clean little pension, fairly near Playa Concha and the Old Town, with nice staff. The room was small but not cramped. I did miss having air conditioning or a ceiling fan, and a somewhat bigger fridge would have been handy. A good stay overall.

I was in room 5, and the smell around the bed was really unpleasant, like old, sweaty socks. I suspect the mattresses were the source, and I found it unacceptable. The bathroom door also scraped the floor and jammed halfway, which seems easy to fix. The reception was lovely and communication was friendly, but I can't say I enjoyed staying here. I'd spend extra for a proper hotel.

A short walk from the old town, and we'd stay again. It's a small hostel/hotel, so you can hear people coming and going, but everyone was considerate and the noise wasn't an issue. I wasn't told at booking that I'd get an email with the after-hours check-in instructions, so I had to call. They sorted it out quickly, which I appreciated. Good stay! 😊

The receptionist helped us book an early taxi to the airport for my two friends, even though I wasn't staying overnight. They also explained exactly where to wait: turn left, walk to the corner, and wait by the front gate of the BBVA bank, where taxis park. The staff were kind and the rooms clean. It's close to the beach, with a nice bar frequented by local residents and a cheap fruit shop downstairs.
