Mundaka Hostel & Sport Cafe

People leaving positive reviews seem to be talking about the restaurant, so hostel guests should be careful. We booked a dorm for six but were put in a room with 12 people. There was no ventilation and it was sweltering. We've backpacked for years in many developing countries, including India, and this was by far the worst. The beds felt unsafe. The room and bathrooms were filthy and repulsive, with hair across the floor, grime, dirt and stains everywhere. The airless room was the worst part, and none of us slept. Absolutely don't stay here. From the other reviews, the owner seems not to like being told things, but the truth is in the details.

The hostel is just 50 meters from the famous MUNDAKA WAVE, the best surfing location I've ever seen. I'd give the place five stars for that. But the workers were extremely rude and aggressive, every one of them. At the restaurant, we waited for an hour, then found out they didn't want to serve us. When we asked why, they said we were unpleasant. We had only been sitting quietly, waiting for someone to come and take our order. We had never met them before, so it couldn't have been about something from an earlier day. It was a crazy situation. Even so, I'd come back and try to keep away from the workers, focusing on my friends, the waves and the location.

It's a very basic bar for the hostel and sports centre, but the coffee and drinks are good. I didn't eat there, though the food seems to be an okay standard and the prices are very reasonable.

A tall man with curly hair was extremely rude and disrespectful. He didn't even give me a chance to speak. I wouldn't recommend the place.
