Hotel Palacio Muñatones

Breakfast was generous and had options for vegetarians. The owners made us feel very welcome, and the rooms were spotless. It’s a lovely little palace, though there aren’t many places to eat nearby, so ask about dinner at the hotel. A wonderful place to stop before or after taking the ferry.

It’s quite remote, so you’ll need to plan ahead if you want dinner. Still, this was a really good find: a small hotel with helpful, friendly staff, a good breakfast and modern, comfortable rooms. The old building’s interior character is still there, too. The staff were keen to help. I’d definitely stay again.

We were a bit concerned about the oil refinery, which you can see from the car park, but it didn’t affect the hotel. The secure parking was useful, and Playa Arena is well located nearby, with the ferry terminal only a 10-minute drive away. Anna and Pedro were attentive and very helpful. It’s a charming little hotel with plenty of character and excellent service.

We paid 130 euros for a room where the refinery noise was impossible to ignore. We stayed in the newly built annex, right outside the refinery, and its low rumble carried loudly into the room all night, even through closed windows and earplugs. On arrival we were also handed the wrong keys and walked into another guest’s room with our belongings. The owner scolded me in front of them, then apologized when we were alone. This was the worst value for money hotel we’ve stayed in. Avoid.
