Camping-Bungalows Altomira

The Via Verde route starts at the top of the site, and there’s a lovely little town about two minutes away. It’s a pleasant tiered campsite in a nice area. The ladies at reception were brilliant whenever we needed directions, and the sanitary block was warm and clean. Highly recommended.

The walk along the old railway behind the campsite was lovely, and the site is well placed beside the village. It was very clean, though I can imagine showers getting queued at the height of summer. The train to Valencia wasn’t running from the villages because the line was being refurbished, so getting there meant a bus and train, and they didn’t run very often. We enjoyed our stay.

Our pitch near the top was spacious and level on hardstanding, and each pitch had its own tap and sink. Electricity was 10 amp and included, without a meter. The facilities above us were very good, though the free WiFi kept cutting in and out. The campsite is open all year and climbs up terraces along a steep zigzag road. The excellent restaurant, which we’d visited before, was unfortunately closed for two weeks until Christmas Day. To reach the nearby greenway, a former railway line, you have to climb a very steep gravel hill. Instead, we cycled into Navajas village and on to its impressive waterfall.

The square in the nearby town is an easy walk away, with friendly bars and restaurants. I’d also recommend visiting the waterfalls nearby. The campsite was quiet, but the toilets were basic and the showers weren’t very clean. We tried to book the restaurant and were told we had to phone. I’m not sure why we couldn’t arrange it directly with the staff there.
