Hospedium Hostal Almanzor

After our car broke down and we had nowhere to go, the owner helped us out and found us a room for two nights. The staff were friendly, and the rooms were clean. It’s in a great location, a five-minute walk from a village with bars and restaurants, with lovely hiking nearby. I’d highly recommend staying here.

Our car trouble left us stranded on a road trip from the UK to Morocco, but we ended up having the most enjoyable week of our trip so far. A nationwide blackout left us without a signal, so we explored the local walking trails, which were absolutely stunning. The staff were kind, always on hand, and offered advice and activities, even though we’re not big bird watchers. It was hard to leave, and I’d definitely recommend getting stuck here.

We felt well looked after during our three days here at the end of October. The dinners featuring interesting local dishes, simple tasty breakfasts, and substantial packed lunches were all excellent value. There are onsite hides and lots of bird-related information, so it’s clearly set up for birdwatchers, but the nearby Gredos mountains make it a great base for hikers too. I’d visit again.

The beds were comfortable enough, the rooms very clean, and the view from the upstairs terrace was lovely. But the hotel was only alright and missed some basics. The toilet seat would twist violently and hit my back whenever I sat down, and the shower drain was clogged. Dinner tasted great, though the service felt odd, and they didn’t account for food allergies, which could have caused a serious problem. Breakfast was basically carbs and coffee. There are also many, many stairs.
