The peaceful setting is what made El Cortijo de los Malenos feel like a place to properly switch off. I'd particularly recommend visiting out of season, when you can enjoy even more of the quiet and calm. At this time of year, there's no daily housekeeping or breakfast. That didn't feel like a downside to us; it suited the privacy and rest, and the chance to connect with nature. You can also book an apartment. The bed and pillows were like a hug, and the towels were outstanding. The cortijo combines nature, quiet and art beautifully. While we were there, a sculpture exhibition was on, which made the experience even better. Sitting in such lovely surroundings and listening to the silence was a rare little luxury. Aurora and her team deserve a special mention. They're not around constantly, but they're there as soon as you need them, with warm, prompt attention and excellent care. Agua Amarga is just five minutes away and has all the services you need. There are also beautiful beaches nearby, including Playa de los Muertos and Cala de Enmedio. We loved the restaurants too. At La Chumbera, the red prawn tartare and steak tartare with bone marrow were truly unforgettable. The location made it easy to get around while keeping the calm of the area. I'll definitely return to rest, breathe and reconnect.
