Hotel Maria del Mar

A simple, no-frills place. Breakfast doesn’t start until 9am, so if you’re setting off early you’ll need to get something at one of the nearby cafes or bars. Some people may also mind that the room door can’t be locked from the inside.

The room was unbelievably tiny, with a balcony just as small and a bathroom of about 2 square metres. The doors were really hard to open, you couldn’t lock the toilet, and the WiFi was painfully slow. What really made this the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in, though, was the service: they insulted us and kicked us out for playing music too loudly in the room, without giving us a warning. This place sucks.

The rooms and bathrooms were more or less clean, apart from a few stray hairs, and the WiFi worked okay. The staff, though, were the worst I’ve ever encountered. Everyone we dealt with was unfriendly and grumpy toward us because we were a little younger, so I definitely wouldn’t call it a hotel for young people. They couldn’t speak any language besides Spanish, either. We were almost thrown out just for listening to music at a reasonable volume, and the way they treated guests shocked us. It’s an okay place only if you stay extremely quiet and make no noise or fuss at all. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it.

The rooms are very good, with balconies and lovely views, and the beach is only a four-minute walk away. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was very good for the price. The location is excellent.
