The village is very quiet, and the simple room has good views. The young man running the house was friendly and attentive. My only complaint is that you can hear people using the bathroom.

We had a lovely night here. Everyone was incredibly kind and friendly. The beautiful house is pet-friendly, right in the heart of Oña, and has everything you need. A great base for exploring the Merindades region.

The welcome was wonderful, and whatever we asked for was handled with real hospitality. The young man was charming and very friendly. With the lovely setting and good value for money, I’d absolutely stay again without hesitation.

The living room and kitchen were the favourite part for everyone in our group of eight adults and two children. There’s loads of equipment, and downstairs we found a little Basque-style kitchen with a table, ideal for grilling, paella, or steaks. The attic room is fantastic, as is the middle floor with separate bedrooms for couples. We chose the house for the Constitution Day long weekend because we wanted somewhere cosy, comfortable, and warm, and it was just right. The heating kicks in quickly. It gave us a bit of a scare on the first day, but the host was very attentive and fixed it. I’d love to return. There are so many places and routes nearby: Poza de la Sal, Tubilla del Agua, Pozo Azul, Orbaneja, the Ebro Canyon, Salto del Nervión, Cascada de Pedrosa, the Hermitage of the Portuguese, Tobera, Frías, Caderechas and its cherry orchards, Ojo Guareña, Puentedey, and Lunada. The recently completed route to Trespaderne is well worth doing too, along with the many other trails across the Oña plateau, the Montes Obarenes, Cillaperlata, and the Valdenoceda valley. A treasure for hikers. The local suckling lamb, bought from the butcher and roasted by a local baker, was exquisite. The supermarket wines were reasonably priced and decent. An excellent place to treat yourself.
