Iraipe Santuario de Arantzazu Hotel

The location was great, but the bistro food was too expensive for its taste and quality, and breakfast was just okay. We stayed for two nights in August 2025, with two rooms, and neither had air conditioning. The host said they could provide fans, but suddenly none were available, so we got just one for the last night.

They ignored us on WhatsApp and kept making excuses instead of following through. It was shocking and deceitful, very unprofessional and dishonest. Don’t trust this hotel. We’d booked this 3-star hotel, which we’d wanted to visit for a long time, and had traveled across the country for it. Right before check-in, we were redirected to a terrible 1-star hotel. It was old, dark, uncomfortable, and nothing like what we’d paid for. We went back to the original hotel to ask if they could still take us despite the technical issues. We were even willing to stay in a room without a light, for example, but were told that wasn’t possible. We were assured several times that we’d receive a full refund, with free breakfast as an additional apology. A few days later, when we asked about the refund, they gave us strange excuses, claiming that taking breakfast meant we’d chosen it instead of the refund. Who would choose a €20 breakfast over a €70 refund for a service they never received? They had clearly said the refund would be full, and breakfast was extra.

The walls seem thin enough that I could hear conversations from what felt like every room around us, and other guests watched TV at the loudest volume. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want a peaceful rest. The location is beautiful, and the service was amazing, especially in the restaurant.

We spent three days here and honestly wish we’d had more time. The area is fantastic for road and mountain biking as well as hiking, and the staff were friendly and very accommodating. The food was great, and they handled our work gathering of almost 100 people amazingly well. The sanctuary itself is beautiful. We spent ages wandering around inside and outside, just taking it all in. I live in the mountains at 9 thousand feet, so other places can be hard to impress me, but this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I can’t wait to return next year. If you’re still reading, get a room facing the mountain. You’ll find yourself gazing out at it in awe at any time of day.
