Parador De Oropesa

The restaurant has a fantastic view over the plain, with the mountains behind it. Breakfast and dinner were extremely well prepared, with choices to suit everyone. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere while having an aperitif with a view of the castle. Staying here really is like living in an old castle, with large, beautiful halls. Our standard room was spacious and neat, and the bathroom had everything we wanted. The Paradores in Oropesa was very nice, and a pleasant surprise. The Oropesa Castle borders the hotel, and a short walk in the evening takes you to the center, where there isn’t much to do. One small downside: the swimming pool wasn’t open yet in mid-May.

I’m rating only the shower, and it gets 9.5/10. The water pressure is strong and steady, and the temperature range is impressive. It gets remarkably hot, even in a freezing December, which I love. There’s both an overhead shower and a retractable handheld one, which I consider a must-have. The handheld showerhead also has several spray settings you can change with a simple turn. Full-sized bottles of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner are mounted on the wall, easy to reach and supplied generously. The only thing keeping it from 10/10 is visible wear and tear, understandable in a hotel housed in a literal castle.

There’s free parking and free wi-fi, and the town center is very close. The restaurant views are spectacular, and there are lovely grounds with a great pool and surroundings. The hotel adjoins Oropesa Castle and has a medieval feel, with very spacious rooms and helpful, professional staff. Worth popping into The Good Pastor cheese shop too, where the cheeses are made from the owner’s sheep’s milk.

After a day of driving we arrived late and had a freshly made, tasty snack in the bar. The rooms had everything we needed, and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, with lots of choices, including a cooked menu, and a beautiful view of the mountains. We loved our stay at the Parador de Oropesa, and it kept getting better from the first night to the end. We’d definitely recommend it.
