Our family was left scrambling after Juanma contacted us four days before our wedding and booking to say we couldn’t stay after all. We’d booked Palacio Canalejas months in advance, paid a deposit, and even visited two months before to check that it suited us. He said, to his regret, he hadn’t realized other guests had an earlier reservation for the same dates. We had to find somewhere for 20 relatives, including elderly people and children, with no solution offered, less than a week before the wedding. I wouldn’t wish the stress of that “oversight” on anyone. Thankfully, Hotel Segovia Sierra de Los Ángeles de San Rafael was only a few minutes away, and everyone stayed there and was delighted. We’d also arranged meals for the family at Los Arcos, where Begoña was lovely and made things easy, but we had to cancel those too, which I’m sure was a big deal for them during the town’s festival week. In August, my wife and I were getting married at an estate near our home. We needed a place for family coming from outside Madrid and the surrounding area to stay the whole weekend. Palacio Canalejas wasn’t anything extraordinary, as the mixed guest reviews show, but it seemed to fit our needs and exceeded our hopes of having everyone together for such an important event. If you want to avoid last-minute surprises, steer clear. I plan to document what happened through every available channel so people think twice before booking, or even thinking they’ve booked, this house. It’s unacceptable to play with people’s money, time, and dreams, whether they’re arranging a wedding, a weekend getaway, or a holiday with family and friends.

We could hear everything from adjoining rooms because there’s no soundproofing, and the mattress was quite uncomfortable. The shower hose was so short that we had to bend down to wash our hair, even though my partner isn’t even 1.7 m tall. We booked the palace for a nearby wedding. The house itself is very pretty and in good condition, and its rustic decor suits the location perfectly. There was only one knife in the whole house.

Juanma is lovely and always attentive to what we need. The house is beautiful, tastefully decorated, and really spacious. We had a fantastic weekend. This was my second time staying here, and I’m sure I’ll be back for a third!

The location was fantastic for our group of 18, with lovely views, quick access to the highway to Segovia, and the town nearby. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed, including a kitchen and bathrooms in every room. We got to spend time together as a family and use all the recreational facilities. I’m sincerely grateful to Juanma for making us so comfortable in his home. There’s no catering, but the village of Otero de Herreros has a bar-restaurant called Los Arcos. It’s run by a lovely couple, especially the owner, Begoña, who is a real delight. The food was delicious and varied, the service was excellent for a place without catering, and they were always keen to look after customers. I can’t leave her out of this review: she always had ideas for breakfast and dinner, and if she didn’t have something available, she’d find it. All in all, the stay, Juanma’s hospitality, and having a restaurant nearby are well worth it for families and friends looking for a relaxing getaway. Many thanks to Juanma and Begoña.
