Hotel Carreño

Oviedo itself was lovely, and the hotel's location beside the train station was convenient. But my stay at Hotel Carreño fell well short of what I expected during an important business trip. The room had a lingering unpleasant smell, and noise from staff banging doors and talking loudly in the hallway kept me from getting a proper night’s sleep. I also felt uncomfortable at breakfast. Front desk staff had asked me for my room number several times since check-in. One morning, a local family, for example the Watson family, sat down without being asked, then a staff member came straight over to me and asked, “What’s your room number?” It felt like clear racial profiling, and left me disappointed. I can’t recommend this hotel to travelers of color.

The sound of trains passing in the background was pleasant to me, though I can see others not liking it. The hotel is just a few steps from the station, and the receptionist also suggested some nearby places where locals have lunch. I had an amazing meal not far away. Check-in was smooth, and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. My room was spacious, very clean and comfortable, with everything I needed. The bathroom was roomy and super clean too. I liked having different lighting settings so I could keep the room dim. Great value for the price.

The room was clean and just the right size, and I’d come back. You can hear water running and other hotel sounds a little, but it didn’t bother me. It might bother some people.

We’ve stayed here a few times, and used the underground parking on this visit. Breakfast is simple and tasty, and the coffee is very good. The rooms are clean, the staff are very good, and the location works well. You can hear trains from some rooms, but the hotel is near the station. A great little place, recommended.
