El Cupido

We had a lovely room with a balcony over the street and a partial sea view. It got the morning sun, and the beds were comfortable. The shower was great too, and there was a coffee machine in the room. The buffet changed each day, and since we had breakfast and dinner, we got to try quite a few things. Some dishes were delicious. The hotel was quiet while we were there, with plenty of comfy sun loungers, a beautiful roof terrace, and a nice pool downstairs. The staff were wonderful, all friendly, smiling and helpful. The receptionist was especially impressive, speaking several languages and coming across as both professional and charming. This really deserves four stars. Thanks for such a great stay!

The location is the hotel's best feature, though there are better places to stay. We were there for 10 nights. The room had a mini fridge and did the job, but it could use an update. When we opened the window, a bad sewage smell hung around. Ants were everywhere, and an air vent made a loud banging noise regularly enough to make us jump. Sleep was another problem. The cleaners slammed doors and dragged beds around at 5 am, so getting a proper night's rest or a lie-in was impossible. The rooms themselves were only mediocre. I felt the reception staff did very little to help. When I was out, the night receptionist refused to book me a taxi even though I don't speak Spanish, and I ended up stranded for the night. I felt there was little care or responsibility shown to a guest in a foreign country. I would never stay here again.

Be aware of the room layout when booking this small boutique hotel. In many rooms, the en-suite is actually part of the room, with a sliding privacy door shared with the shower. Some rooms have a separate toilet and shower, so ask for one if that's what you want. The rooftop terrace is excellent, and the staff are friendly and good at sorting out problems. The hotel is also brilliantly placed by the strip, within sight of the beach.

The location and the front-of-house interior aren't enough to make up for the beds. I've stayed in plenty of hotels around the island, sometimes five or more on a trip, and these were the worst beds I've slept in. They're old and far too soft. We spent two days and two awful nights there. Switching rooms didn't help much. The rooms were below mediocre, with the toilet right in the room, so you're basically going to the loo next to the bed. You'd better be very comfortable with whoever you're travelling with. Breakfast was much like any other hotel, nothing special, and the orange juice had run out on the first day. I don't know where the Boutique Hotel claim comes from. I won't book here again. If soft, old beds are a problem for you, don't be tempted by the location or the interior. It isn't worth the money.
