Occidental Jandía Playa

We liked the location and pool area best. The hotel is close to the beach, and one of the lovely, well-kept pools is heated, which made swimming comfortable. There’s plenty to do, including an arcade, billiards, tennis, table tennis, and a kids’ animation program. Our half-board meals were consistently good with a nice range, although the dining room got crowded and noisy at busy times. The gym is well equipped, but half the cardio machines were out of order for our whole stay. That upkeep issue kept this from feeling like a five-star stay. We had a lovely time and would still recommend it as a solid Fuerteventura option, with some room to improve maintenance.

The one downside was having to leave so soon. We had such an entertaining, relaxing stay that we didn’t even use our free spa days. The Deluxe Sea View balcony had amazing views from sunrise to sunset, and the beach was stunning with the town fairly close by. Our room was kept immaculate each day by the friendly, helpful staff, and the hotel and grounds stayed in pristine condition. Dinner was fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. Everyone serving meals greeted us with a genuine smile and was polite and helpful. The snack bar was a welcome place to stop between the beach and restaurant, and the pool exercise staff were so joyful and energetic that we smiled even when we weren’t joining in. Couldn’t have wished for a better stay. Thank you all for your quiet hard work. It left us saying WOW!!! Muchas Gracias.

We stayed for 15 days and found the hotel and staff consistently clean and kind. Noemi cleaned our room while we were at breakfast, so we never had to wait, and she was always thoughtful. We also went to the spa twice for massages. They asked what we wanted and suggested the bamboo massage on our second visit. Dominika was fantastic, kind and highly skilled. She listened to my feedback and focused on exactly the right areas. The pain was gone as soon as the session ended. Highly recommended.

The grounds are lovely and well kept, but the online marketing doesn’t match what we found. The hotel is huge and feels impersonal, with a separate Royal level, all-inclusive guests, and everyone else left guessing where they can get food or drinks. We only had breakfast; from what we saw, the all-inclusive option includes drinks and a limited daytime buffet. Make sure your food is well cooked. The location is okay, with nice long walks by the ocean or road, free street parking, and a Spar convenience store under the complex, though it isn’t close to town. If mobility is an issue, ask for a room in or near the main building, since the complex has many buildings. The magnetic keys stopped working twice in our five days. Bring two, especially if you use the door at the bottom of the complex: if a key fails there, you may need luck or a long walk uphill to reception for a replacement. The buildings feel cheaply made and have no sound insulation. We could hear people entering nearby rooms, opening terrace doors above us, cleaners chatting loudly and moving furniture from 8 am, and suitcases being dragged around at all hours. Our sink leaked. I reported it Monday morning, it was acknowledged Wednesday afternoon, and nobody fixed it before we checked out Thursday. We brushed our teeth over the bidet. Some areas also look overdue for updates, including missing pool tiles and water-damaged wooden structures. The room was okay, and the online app was buggy and frustrating. I’d read the lowest reviews, since a lot of what they say is true. If you’re happy anywhere, it might still be okay for you.
