Don Rodrigo

The room felt bright and fresh, with wonderful air conditioning, an incredibly comfortable bed, and a great shower. I could have used a few more pillows, and the dusting could have been more thorough. The receptionist who welcomed us was lovely and very helpful despite the language barrier. The person at reception in the morning was blunt, almost rude, which was a shame after such a warm arrival. We hadn't been told before reaching the hotel that underground parking required a code from reception. It was also very tight for the large car we had. This was a useful break on a long drive from the UK to Portugal, but we wouldn't stay again.

We were sure we'd booked an accessible room for two nights, but the hotel said we hadn't. Booking. Com showed that we had, so we had to settle for a regular room. It was all right, though the toilet was far too low for someone with a broken leg. When we collected the car, we also found a big step, which wouldn't work for someone using a wheelchair. The underground car park is very narrow to drive down, and there isn't another parking option. The rooms themselves are nice.

For a comfortable, no-frills stay at a good price, this place works well. The welcome was warm, the rooms were spotless, and the buffet breakfast was fresh and perfectly adequate for the very reasonable price.

The garage gave us the only real headache. Getting our large Volvo in and, especially, back out took some effort. A small, nimble car should be fine, but larger ones may struggle. Otherwise, this was a very pleasant hotel in a handy spot near the river, with the town center an easy walk away. Our superior double was light, airy, and spacious, the bed was big and comfortable, and all the staff were friendly and courteous.
