Hostal Becares

A low-cost place in a great location, with a microwave and fridge that other places don’t offer.

The trouble started when we arrived around 16:00 and found the door locked, even though we’d booked through booking.com with check-in listed from 12:30-22:00. We called the number on the door, and a rather unfriendly person who couldn’t speak English told us reception would only open at 18:30. It was winter and very cold, and as cycle tourists we couldn’t wait 2.5 hours outside. Instead of helping us find a solution, the person hung up. It was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. We found somewhere else to stay, then spent about four hours getting the booking cancelled without charge, with very friendly help from two booking.com employees. At least we got our money back, but it was a waste of precious time. The owner should keep important details such as check-in hours up to date on online booking sites. If we’d known check-in was only from 18:30, we’d never have booked here. Mistakes happen, but just hanging up instead of trying to sort things out was pretty impertinent.

It’s very central and very clean. Our double room was tiny, but adequate, and had a fridge and microwave. Downstairs there was a tea and coffee and drinks machine, plus free filtered water.

A charming Hostel in Palencia, Spain, with a good price and good quality. It only costs 700. I highly recommend it to my friends from Oklahoma, so they can experience the premiere next October 14 th. of 2021.
