Hotel Avenida

The location is hard to beat, just steps from the old town. The hotel was basic but perfectly fine, and the shower was excellent. We liked stepping out onto the balcony for fresh air. The lift fits two people, which helped because otherwise we’d have had to climb four flights. There was water damage in several corners of the room and bathroom, and it felt as though renovations were about to start or already underway. The walls are thin, so we could hear the neighbors talking quite clearly. The lobby wasn’t especially welcoming or attractive, with the attendant at a temporary rolling desk and no chair. Parking is in a neighboring garage around the corner. You have to open and close the doors by hand, and there’s no electric charging. I might stay again if booking at the last minute, but with a bit more notice, I suspect there are comparable places for this level of quality. The rooms are small, which is normal for Europe.

The receptionist we met was really charming, though we hardly saw staff or needed anything, so I rated service four stars. The room was compact but comfortable, with good beds, a clean bathroom, and plenty of handy power sockets. The online check-in felt a little unusual, but it worked. A perfectly good hotel in central Pamplona, close to the bus station. Recommended.

The room had been refurbished nicely and the beds were comfortable, though there was a tobacco smell and a bathroom leak. It's also an easy walk to the old town. Staff wouldn't stay a couple of minutes past their set time to help us book parking after our first card didn't work.

The room itself was adequate and updated, though still below an Ibis Budget. I know it's an older building, but the rest of the place felt dirty and run down, with stained carpets and walls. After two months touring Europe, this is the first negative review I've written, and honestly, the place has a lot of issues. The WiFi supposedly works, but none of our devices could get online, so I had to use my phone hotspot. That's not acceptable these days. The front desk woman wasn't much help and seemed put out when I knocked on the office door, since everything is meant to come through WhatsApp. My door code failed the first time, and I didn't appreciate being treated as if I couldn't enter a number. Parking was a real problem. The hotel is on a busy street, with curbs all along the lane and nowhere to stop or park nearby. You can spot the entrance as you drive past, but I had to circle four blocks to reach a back street and park illegally while checking in. Maybe this is noted already, and if so, that's on me. It's in an industrial area, though I found two good restaurants not too far away, Alhambra and Maira. I strongly recommend Maira. By 3pm I felt like going to bed and getting up to leave before sunrise.
