Pensión Leyre

For 30 Euros I got a very clean single room with a comfortable bed right in the city center, which felt like a good price for the season. I turned up without a reservation and check-in was easy. I’d stay again.

This place was better than I expected. The room had an old-fashioned veranda and the beds had really comfortable mattresses. A small but functional bathroom was fitted into the room with a partition. Dogs are welcome and clearly loved by the elderly, friendly owner. A relaxing stay.

Unexpected things can happen, and that’s when you find out whether the service measures up. It certainly did for us. This is a modest, welcoming guesthouse, and we hope to spend another night in central Pamplona on a future visit.

We stayed at Pension Leyre in Pamplona from November 6th to 9th. I’ve had no response from Booking.com about my complaint since November 9th, so these are the reasons for my rating. On the night of November 6th to 7th, a major leak came through our ceiling. Water ran down the walls and across the floor, soaking all our belongings. It was coming down so hard that a mirror fixed to the wall fell onto the TV, breaking everything onto the floor. We could have been hurt if we’d stayed in the room a few minutes longer. At 5:00 AM, we had to move rooms ourselves. The owner got up when she heard the noise but didn’t apologize or offer help. We only managed to get back to sleep around 6:00 AM. When we checked out on November 9th, the owner still asked for the full €235 payment, without apologizing or offering any goodwill. After we discussed it, she first refused compensation, then offered €10 off, which we rejected. In the end she agreed to charge €200 total, still nowhere near enough for the trouble we’d been through. We’d also paid for a room with a private bathroom, but the bathroom was in the shared areas instead. That wasn’t the service we booked. Accidents can happen, but the total lack of consideration, professionalism, and business sense was unacceptable. We don’t recommend this place.
