Hotel Continental

The room had no tea, coffee, or even drinking water, just paper cups, and the supplied amenities were basic. You also have to pay €26 to use the pool. For what you get, this is far too expensive and feels like a complete rip-off. Stay somewhere else.

We wouldn't return or recommend this hotel, even though the area is beautiful. The room was really grubby: stained curtains, a TV that didn't work properly, a bathroom floor that flooded when we showered, and a door that couldn't shut because the flooring was raised. There was no air conditioning despite our booking saying there would be. Reception didn't seem very interested and just shrugged, saying there wasn't any. They did send maintenance to file down the floor so the bathroom door would close. The room was stuffy, and we couldn't open the window because a loud event was going on in the building opposite until 5am. We had booked dinner and breakfast too, but both buffets were poor. The food was bland and, in my opinion, not kept at a safe temperature.

The setting is peaceful and surrounded by nature, with mountains, little waterfalls, and rivers. You can hear the rain, and the rooms are clean and spacious. But the hotel itself needs a lot of fixing and cleaning, especially the corridor carpets. The restaurant staff were cheerful, hardworking, and very helpful, though the food was unappetizing bulk fare with very few choices for vegetarians or vegans. I wasn't looking forward to another meal there. The spa was a joke. The thermal pools were lukewarm or cold, less warm than the water I wash my hands in, so they weren't relaxing at all. Almost half the facilities were closed because of COVID, which is understandable, but they hadn't told us before we booked. We were left with a freezing pool, a cold pool, a lukewarm pool, the sauna, and showers. The staff didn't speak English either. This could be a nice base for exploring the area or enjoying nature, but I wouldn't bother with the hotel facilities.

The surrounding nature is stunning, and our clean room had climate control. We booked four nights but left after two. The staff were friendly, but disorganized, understaffed, and seemed uninterested in guests. They didn't even ask why we were leaving early. The place felt impersonal and not very welcoming. The facilities look about 15 years old and seem not to have been maintained or touched up. There were cracked exterior walls, peeling paint, and visible humidity damage inside and out. In our room, the shower was moldy, the sink was cracked, and floor and wooden wall panels were broken. The hall carpets were dirty, and the TV looked roughly from 2005. On the grounds were unfinished, abandoned ruins with no security, plus unsecured building materials and rubbish. The historic buildings were deteriorating, and even the breakfast hall interior was falling apart. Breakfast was lackluster, with few vegetarian choices and no vegan options apart from fruit. When it got busier, cutlery was dirty or in short supply. It's a beautiful setting with a lot of potential, but in our view it doesn't currently compare with other four-star hotels, and nobody seems to care enough to repair or maintain it. We were very disappointed and can't recommend it in its current condition.
