Casa Rural Salguero de Abajo

We spent a really lovely Christmas Eve in this welcoming, comfortable house. It has 7 rooms, all with bathrooms, and was impeccably clean. They took care of a few last-minute details right away. Many thanks to Verónica and her family for looking after us.

The owner was really friendly, and the house is spectacular, huge and in perfect condition. Twelve friends and I spent a weekend there for a bachelor party and couldn't have picked a better place. We especially enjoyed the barbecue area, and we were lucky to have perfect weather. It's only a 12-minute drive from Gijón, and I'd recommend it 100%.

The owner was very friendly and quickly fixed the boiler when it stopped working. The beds were very comfortable, every room had its own bathroom, and everything was clean. We were only there for a weekend and mostly just slept, but I still thought it was a lovely place, close to Gijón and well connected by road, with the bus stop practically next door. The only thing missing was some kitchenware, such as small plates, knives and cooking utensils, but that's an easy fix.

My room was incredibly dark. I've never experienced anything like it, even in the worst hotel. Two of the three lamps were broken, so I had only one bulb for showering and the bedside lamp to get around. After a few days someone came to try to repair them, but they kept failing, and the bathroom light stayed broken for my whole stay. I already knew from earlier reviews that there were lots of flies, but the layout made it impossible to keep them out, or even keep some of them out. The rooms were separated by a screen, so when the person next door opened their window, flies came in everywhere even if I kept mine shut. The screen also meant there was no privacy, and I could hear the neighbours' conversations clearly. We rented the house for a family holiday, but I wouldn't recommend it.
