Albergue Piedad

Really nice to have proper sheets, and this was the comfiest bed I've slept in so far on the Del Norte. It was spotlessly clean too, and a great place to split up the journey between Santander and Santillana del Mar.

After a long day that began badly, everything changed when I walked through the Albergue doors. Piedad took me in and welcomed me with so much kindness and love. She's a caring, wonderful lady, and her smile will stay with me all the way to Santiago. Thank you so much, an angel of an Albergue host.

There's a lovely terrace where you can unwind and dry clothes, and I really appreciated having hairdryers in the bathrooms. The bedrooms, showers and bathrooms were all spotless, and the albergue was clean and comfortable. The tricky part was having nowhere communal to sit or eat when it rained, and no kitchen. The bar lent me a plate so I could prepare some food, and I ate in reception. The managers were accommodating, and it worked, though it still felt uncomfortable.

I really enjoyed staying here, mainly because it was beautiful and clean. The mattress was very worn and needs replacing, though. The place has bright white interiors, fresh bedding, clean bathrooms, modern renovations and the cozy feel of a nice bar. If you value comfort, especially compared with some municipal albergues, it's a good fit. If you want an authentic pilgrim albergue and are happy with just a mat and sleeping bag on the floor, it may not be for you. Big thanks for a great stay!
