PLAYA ESPERANZA RESORT

We visited in the final week of April, when it wasn’t too crowded. Days were mild to warm, around 20-25°C, but a steady breeze and sometimes chilly evenings made it feel cooler. A thoughtful touch was the complimentary bottle of Prosecco for the birthday in our group. We can recommend the hotel for guests of any age. The green outdoor area offers plenty of shade, and the island’s largest beach is right there, and arguably one of its prettiest. Our family of four had a spacious, nicely renovated apartment. The doors to the room and balcony were poor quality, though, so sound insulation was limited. Noise carried easily, and some guests were inconsiderate from early morning until late at night. Food was good, solid buffet fare, though peak times brought the expected noise, crowds and queues. Staff throughout the hotel were attentive, professional and genuinely friendly.

The family-friendly facilities and location are good, but I was bothered by the towel policy. There are no signs in the bathroom asking guests to save water or skip daily towel changes, even though it’s an island like Mallorca. Towels were replaced whether they were on the floor or hanging. Please fix this, it would save money and help the environment. We had a small kitchen area, but the hotel didn’t provide cleaning soap, so we had to use the bathroom soap. The bed was made even with a mysterious construction we’d set up to stop the baby rolling out at night. It was a pity one cleaner didn’t understand it, so I left notes asking them not to move things while still coming in to take out the trash. There was plenty of food at breakfast and even more at dinner, though dinner quality left me with mixed feelings. Some dishes were bland, maybe that’s what happens with mass production. A couple of pancake varieties were available at breakfast, but the smaller ones were extremely dry and tasted like paper, which was sad because I like pancakes in the morning. There was such a huge amount of food, I wondered what happens to leftovers.

We’re already looking forward to a longer visit in May. This Easter weekend was our second year at Playa Esperanza, after two visits last year, and the warm welcome back felt special. Seeing so many familiar staff faces stood out. They seem to enjoy the work and take pride in it, and that consistency says a lot. We spent four nights, and everything from arrival through departure was exceptional. Everyone we met was friendly, welcoming and accommodating, whether at check-in, in the restaurant or bar, or in housekeeping. The whole experience felt seamless.

I had a great stay at Playa Esperanza Hotel over Easter, spending five nights on half board, and would book it again. It was good value. My spacious room had a sea view and was kept very clean. The staff were friendly and spoke several languages. Breakfast and dinner were outstanding and varied, served in a huge dining hall with a sea view. The evening shows in the hotel bar can be amusing if you’re in the mood. The hotel beach is right beside the property. There are bicycle and car rental shops nearby, and rented bikes can be securely locked overnight because Bike Schon offers bicycle rentals (Canyon). Covered parking is very limited, but there are plenty of public spaces along the street.
