We paid everything up front, which I strongly regret. After four nights of poor sleep because of the noise, smells, and bad mattresses, we tried to get a refund and leave. The woman in charge shouted at us for half an hour; I was almost glad I couldn't understand her. Another woman joined in, and they both got louder, so we gave up and stayed four more nights. We would never go back. The room was awful: bare and monastic, with separate beds, damaged walls, a broken light, and broken curtain fittings that nobody fixed. The floor was dirty and sticky from its damaged coating, so walking barefoot wasn't possible. There were cobwebs on the ceiling, and no towels or soap in the toilet. The cheap, old furniture smelled of formaldehyde, like a very elderly person's home. The restaurant downstairs meant greasy fish smells reached our room in the evenings. Smoking was allowed in the room, which I find terrible, and the corridor reeked of tobacco. I never saw a fire extinguisher anywhere, which was frightening. At night the restaurant was loud, and during the day there was a construction site around the corner. The staff didn't speak any English. Unless you speak good Spanish, or better yet Basque, real communication seems impossible. This was the worst place I've stayed in so far.
