I needed somewhere to cook because I’m vegan and, haha, you can’t eat vegan in the area. I stayed here before walking Ruta del Cares. The location was nice and the cabin was pleasant, though the bathroom was a little old and the cooking utensils were pretty basic. You can really only use one gas burner, since two pans won’t fit on the stove at once. Otherwise, it’s a nice, quiet place with a lovely view.

Isabel makes the place feel like home. She’s so welcoming and helpful, and the location in Posada de Valdeón is amazing, with spectacular mountain views. It’s handy for some of the big walks, including Anillo de Picos routes that pass right by. The small pool is perfect, and the mountain views from it are a great extra. I’d give every category a 10 if I could. Loved it.

Isabel, our lovely hostess, was so helpful, and the location deserves six stars. The hotel sits on the route for the tough four-day, three-night Anillo Vindio walk, which they did, and I’m 67, as well as longer alternative walks. Ruta de Cares is an hour’s walk or a short drive away. Visit now if you can, because Isabel is talking about retiring.

June '24. This quiet family hotel is just outside Posado de Valdeon and has 3/4 cabins on the grounds. Breakfast was continental again, which left me a bit disappointed, though I suppose I shouldn’t expect more. There’s no restaurant here, so I’d suggest the local bar El Desvan.

The homemade breakfast was made with love, and the staff were extremely welcoming and kind. Our rooms were comfortable, cosy, and clean, with incredible views. After a long hike in the beautiful surrounding mountains, the refreshing swimming pool was a real bonus. We had a very enjoyable stay at Hotel Rural Picos de Europa and will visit again.
