Breakfast was the one bright spot. They brought out fruit, then bread, then eggs, and it was good. I hate leaving a bad review, but this was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. We arrived after dark to find the room had no electricity, so we didn’t notice the off-white pillow until the next morning. My wife got a bug bite from it and had an allergic reaction. On the way back to Bilbao, we had to visit two medical clinics. The power stayed out in our room all night and into the morning, so we couldn’t use it while getting ready. We slept horribly, tossing and turning on uncomfortable pillows and mattresses. I understand it’s an old, charming hotel, but these are bare minimum things guests should be able to count on. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you don’t want to risk your vacation.

The breakfast was generous, and everything was homemade: cake, tortilla, and bread with tomato and ham. We had to leave early on our last morning, before the usual 8am start, and the staff kindly offered to serve us ahead of time. They were warm and attentive throughout, and gave us good recommendations since the restaurant wasn’t open. We loved this cozy little hotel in Potes. It’s hard to believe it’s a one-star place. The rooms are a bit outdated, but the hotel has lots of charm, with a nice bar area, a cozy shared room with a fireplace and TV, and a tucked-away terrace overlooking the river. A little mountain gem. Absolutely recommended!

Casa Cayo was a great base for exploring town on foot. The staff were so friendly, and our room was clean and comfortable. Great coffee and breakfast too. We’d definitely recommend it.

Dinner was delicious, and the service was lovely. The dishes came out at just the right pace. Both the fish and meat were brilliant, and the local black pudding with apple is a must try. Save room for dessert, the chocolate cookie cheesecake was divine.

From the moment we arrived until our very last minute there, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They made us feel at home and went out of their way to sort out anything we needed. I only noticed at the airport that I’d left my Apple Watch in the room. I called to ask what I could do, and two days later they’d shipped it to New York. Thank you so much for going above and beyond for us! ❤️ We’ll definitely be back.
